Throughout history in art, painters from Rembrandt and Van Gogh, to Picasso and Kahlo, have each painted numerous self-portraits. It is a staple practice among most painters, as it offers a constant challenge to portray oneself in the truest sense. How do we see ourselves? How do others see us?

Frida Kahlo explained it matter of factly, “I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best. I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to and I paint whatever passes through my head without any consideration.”
