Dark Night of the Soul
This series spans a period of time when Schultz experienced change, loss, sadness and remorse. The conceptual framework for his life that he previously held, was crumbling. The meaning he had placed on so many things, was collapsing and this brought moments of despair—which is the epitome of a Dark Night of the Soul. He harnessed these emotions into questionings, process and finally a hunger for awareness. He turned to his art. What wanted to come out onto the canvas, was history…release. The work encompassed not only certain historical events and mythical inspirations but also unearthed the ghosts of the past.
